Hmmmm. The Constitution says that a president can be impeached for "high crimes and misdemeanors." So you'd think that if the House of Representatives embarks on such a serious step, there would be evidence of a high crime or misdemeanor.
But a minor detail like evidence isn't about to stop Biden-hating Republicans from initiating an impeachment inquiry, since they can't say what horrible thing Biden is supposed to have done.
So they're going to act like they're in an existentialist novel where the accused is to be convicted without being told what crime they committed. "Biden must have done something," goes their twisted reasoning, "so we'll investigate him until he admits to the nothingness that is the human condition -- after all, that nothing is something!"
With Trump's two impeachments, it was easy to capture his wrongdoing in a simple declarative sentence.
Trump used a threat of withholding military aid from Ukraine in an attempt to have Ukraine announce an investigation of Biden's son, Hunter. Trump actively encouraged the insurrection against the United States government on January 6, 2021.
But when you hear House Republicans try to describe why they're embarking on a Biden impeachment inquiry, the gibberish that comes out of their mouths sounds something like: where there's smoke, there's fire.... some people have claimed... influence peddling... bribery... lack of facts points to a coverup.
That last bit of gibberish is my favorite. Some members of the House GOP want us to believe that because no facts have emerged that prove President Biden did something seriously wrong, this shows that a coverup is being engaged in by the Biden administration.
Yeah, right. Just as the lack of evidence that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump shows that the Deep State is so powerful and entrenched, it can make citizens believe the fraudulent election was free and fair.
Speaker McCarthy said just a bit over a week ago that the entire House would vote to approve an impeachment inquiry. So the fact that McCarthy ended up doing this on his own shows that he doesn't even have the support of House Republicans to begin the process of impeaching Biden.
I strongly suspect that this impeachment fiasco is going to help Biden and the Democrats in the 2024 election. Americans can tell the difference between a justified presidential impeachment and a bullshit impeachment.
Oregon's sole Republican member of Congress from a swing district, Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, is thrilled about the impeachment inquiry. Well, we shall see how thrilled she is when her Democratic opponent reminds voters of this after the inquiry finds no evidence of Biden wrongdoing.
Here's some other posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, regarding the impeachment inquiry.
As the evidence mounts against Joe Biden that he participated in enriching his family by misusing his power as Vice President, two other powerful federal officials have to be very concerned about themselves.
Attorney General Merrick Garland told Congress that U.S. Attorney David Weiss had the power to fully investigate Hunter Biden anywhere in the USA. Not true. We now know that US Attorneys in California and Washington DC, both Biden appointees, refused to cooperate with Weiss, and Merrick Garland did nothing about it.
Lying to Congress is a serious situation. Garland will eventually be held responsible. He shows up again this coming Wednesday for further interrogation.
And then there's Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI. A paid informant for the Bureau told agents that Joe Biden received $5 million dollars from a business in Ukraine, Burisma, which was being investigated for corruption in that country. The informant's allegation was put into an FBI memo, and then it seemingly disappeared. Surely, Wray knew about the memo. So what happened?
Wray won't say.
The heavy odds are that Biden, Garland, and Wray will all eventually be brought down by the influence-peddling scandal. It will take a while, but the stars are aligning.
In the meantime we will believe what we want to believe even if the evidence is contrary to that belief.
Such is the political minset.
