At 1:14 pm today Joe Biden personally texted me with the news that he's chosen Kamala Harris as his running mate. Thank you, Joe! I appreciated being the first to know, along with the millions of other people who had recently texted FIRST to 30330.
The news lifted my spirits for the rest of the day. Well, along with doing some marijuana shopping this afternoon. Along that line, Harris apparently now is in favor of marijuana legalization. Hopefully she can bring President Biden along on this issue.
Not that I'm counting my presidential election chicken before it is hatched.
Even though I wanted Biden to pick Harris, and think she will be a tremendous asset for him, there's going to be a lot of anxious moments for us progressives until the election is settled.
Things look good for Biden-Harris at the moment, but Trump and his GOP co-conspirators surely have a lot of dirty tricks to pull out of their Sleaze Bag between now and November 3, and maybe even after election day.
Now, though, is a time to bask in the glow of Kamala Harris being the first woman of color on a presidential ticket. The child of immigrants -- an Asian Indian mother and a Jamaican father -- Harris is a perfect complement to Biden.
Younger. More dynamic. Blacker. Better debater. More aggressive.
If Biden is elected, almost certainly he won't run for a second term. That leaves the door wide open for a President Harris. So in 2024 we could see the first woman president, who also obviously would be the first Black woman president.
Since Harris was a presidential candidate this go-around, it's hard to imagine that there is any opposition research about her that the Trump campaign could dig up that wasn't already known. Today's Republican attacks against Harris were pitifully predictable.
Far left. Socialist. Extreme. Socialized medicine. Defund police.
Likely there were videos ready to go along the same line with only the name and photo of the Biden VP pick being different. If this is all they've got on Harris, it shows how smart Biden was to choose her.
I just made a donation to the Biden-Harris campaign. Please consider doing this yourself. It is hugely important to prevent Trump from inflicting four more years of autocracy, dysfunction, illegality, and incompetence upon our country, and the world.
I'm looking forward to the first and only debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence on October 7. It's a dream political match-up. Bland white guy versus exciting black gal. Likely Harris is going to whip his sorry Republican ass, which will be a joy to behold.
Lastly, I want to point out the obvious. Harris isn't a perfect VP candidate because there are no perfect people. So us progressives have to stifle the urge to say, "But Harris did ____" or "But Harris said ____."
Bluntly put, so fucking what? Anything Harris did or said that fails to match up with some liberal purity perfection test would still give her a grade so far above that of Trump or Pence it's absurd for any progressive to even have the faintest notion of not voting for Biden-Harris.
Let's all work as hard as we can to elect them. Anything else is a disservice to our children and grandchildren. Also, to ourselves.
I listened to her speech today.
Unlike Hitlary, she seems strong enough to handle the agony of defeat.

Well Brian, here we are again -- the US electorate is faced with the most ghastly set of choices since 2016!
You'd better hope that the voters don't learn much of Harris' history which, added to Biden's record of corruption and self-dealing, would probably hand the election to Trump on a silver platter.
