Happy birthday. We share this day but I am 5 years ahead of you lol. My thought on aging is that nobody gets more than the day they are actually living-- young or old. Live that day the way you most want to do. Not all are equally fun to live but good or not so good, they are the only thing we really have. The past is gone and the future is yet to be (maybe).

I like the quote I have on my calendar for October. "The purpose of life is a life of purpose." That doesn't have to be big purposes. Sometimes the best things are small.

Dear Brian,

Happy 'Birthday+1' !

Just read this post of yours, via the link in the CotC link (I'd read your CotC post yesterday itself), and I can understand your sense of ... well, of days gone by, that sort of thing. I was wondering if I could cheer you up by offering this perspective, that occurs to me as I read this post of yours.

You know, I think age corresponds almost exactly with the concept of sunk cost.

Think about it. When we've put in a fair amount of money and/or effort into a project, then our perspective (and therefore our judgment) is often warped by a sense of what we've already spent, when that figure, that sunk cost, is, in fact, an entirely irrelevant figure.

Of course, in this case, when it comes to your age -- and to age in general -- what we're talking of is probably not so much judgment per se, but simply perspective.

But think about it : Now, as ever, you have some days ahead. Now, as ever, you have certain physical and mental equipment at your disposal. Now, as ever, there are things you can do, within certain restraints.

No difference at all, is there? Bring it on, all of the hopes, all of the dreams, all of the plans, all of it! Life's just starting, it's always just starting! Always, at every moment!

Cheers, Brian!
