Having little knowledge of the political landscape of Salem or the power brokers locally, how does one thrust themselves into the political ring to steer this beast into line with the will of its' citizenry?

This is a serious question and I would enjoy learning more about how I might serve this city as the current elected officials appear to be serving their own interests and little more

Bradley, you should check out Progressive Salem, a newly formed organization that is looking for progressive/liberal candidates to run against what I like to call The Machine. See:

http://progressivesalem.com

Not all of the pages on that site are fully functional yet, but the basic information about Progressive Salem is there. I recently became a member and donated to the Progressive Salem PAC.
