I love Pearls Before Swine's often caustic and cynical humor. Yesterday the comic strip featured Stephen Pastis' take on the Supreme Court's absurd contention that...
"Spending large sums of money in connection with elections... does not give rise to quid pro quo corruption."
Yeah, right.
In seven panels Pastis destroyed this argument. (click to enlarge)
Of course, this crap also is going on right here in semi-sleepy Salem, Oregon. Wasn't long ago that I blogged about "Salem Chamber of Commerce tries to buy City Council seats."
Regarding the Chamber's efforts to buy the Council ... guess what? They did! This is nothing new. They have owned the Council since they made Janet Taylor Mayor and gave those Commies (Mike Swaim, Bill Smaldone, etc.) the boot a dozen years ago. After this year's elections they will own seats in Wards 4, 6 and 8. Since they already own Wards 3 and 7 and the Mayor's vote, most of the time, they got it made! At least we elected Tom Andersen in Ward 2 which will increase the entertainment value of our Council if nothing else. Actually I have high hopes for Tom, whom I helped elect. He is our "foot in the door."
