I don't have an Apple, but when my computer does something weird, the first thing I do is restore it to an earlier time before the problem happened. My husband says that sometimes ours loses something on a particular exercise but it's there if I back up. Does Apple have such restore points?

Rain, yes, Macs have a nifty "TIme Machine" feature. I back up weekly to an external drive using Time Machine. My wife's iMac is hooked up to an external drive all the time, so she gets more or less continuous backups.

I could have tried this if my call to Apple hadn't solved the problem. But then I would lost other changes made to my computer.

Apple support is so good, my first thought always is to call them when I have a perplexing problem, because that way I'm less likely to screw things up more through my own misguided efforts.
