Wow, that was a rare (and unwelcome) blast to the past -- finding this on the Stanley Security web site:
Sign Up for eAccountManager or eAccountManager Plus
Please note the PC system requirements for eAccountManager/eAccountManager Plus:
IBM compatible computer
Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer; Netscape 6.0 or newer
It's been a long time since I've come across an Internet site that hasn't noticed there are other computers than IBM PCs, and other web browsers than Internet Explorer and Netscape. (Netscape stopped being supported in 2008, and few people used it after 2002.)
This makes me wonder whether our security company communicates with police and fire departments by telegraph. Or maybe smoke signals? When I was stymied from being able to sign up for online access to our account, I sent Stanley Security a message:
You have to be kidding: With my bill I get an invite to sign up for online access to my account, only to find that I need to have a Windows PC and Internet Explorer?
Are you out to lose your Apple customers? And don't you realize that when it comes to security, Apple computers are much safer than PCs? I urge you to rethink your online policies, as they are insulting to customers who have (happily) changed over to Apple computers.
Guess Stanley Security isn't totally in the dark ages. Got an email from them today:
"Mr. Hines,
You can access our system with an Apple if you use Firefox as a browser.
Safari is not currently supported."
Suggestion to Stanley: take a few minutes and say this on your web site.
