Some friends of ours, TIm and Jan, just got back from Europe. Today Tim, knowing of my scooter obsession, sent me a photo he took in Florence, Italy.
He said, "This picture was taken on a street that runs along the Arno river near the Uffizi museum and Ponte Vecchio."
Bellissimo!
I was in Florence for a few days back in my college days (1968). I don't remember seeing such a beautiful display of two-wheeled art. If I returned, I'd probably spend much of my time staring at scooters rather than other artistic treasures.
Tim and Jan said that scooters are much more common in Europe than here in the United States. I need to think about emigrating.
Today I rode my Burgman 650 into Salem for my Tai Chi class. I saw only three motorcycles on my 50 minute drive (one a police bike). No fellow scooterers. If I lived in Europe I'd have a lot of fellow two-wheeled travelers.
Including some semi-crazy ones.
Before I bought my Burgman I enjoyed watching a short You Tube video of a guy riding the same model into Vienna, not entirely sanely. I don't ride like this guy, but I can understand the attraction of zipping through traffic on picturesque narrow European streets.
Watch and imbibe the high-speed scooter spirit.
