You'd think that members of the Portland (Oregon) police force would be embarrassed that several of their brethren weren't able to handle a combative 12 year old girl.
An officer shot her at close-range with a beanbag gun, even though several men had her down on the ground and were trying to wrestle her into submission.
But no, per usual the police union is all upset that Officer Christopher Humphries, who shot the girl, has been suspended pending an investigation. Humphries also has been disciplined for his role in the death of an unarmed mentally man.
Watching a security camera video of the girl's shooting, it sure looks like Humphries was strutting around with the gun on his shoulder, itching to use it.
Wow, what a tough guy. He wasn't willing to help his fellow officers handle the girl, choosing to stand safely next to her and fire a beanbag round into her thigh.
Like I've said before, police officers need more martial arts training. Three adult male police officers should be able to deal with one unarmed 12 year old girl without having to shoot her.
And the police union should stop its knee-jerk reaction when an officer is suspended for excessive use of force. As Jack Bog's blog puts it, "Rogue cop at it again." The public is justified in mistrusting police when they rarely face accountability for their actions.
Why hasn't Oregon's Govenor stepped up and put an end to Portland's out of control police ? Can't anyone stop this ?
