OK, I admit it: I'm addicted to central Oregon's Metolius River basin. Can't get enough of this beautiful slice of Mother Earth. Have to share photos of my lovely every chance I can.
Some headless horses in the "Johnson meadow" near the head of the Metolius.Looking upstream at Black Butte and toward the headwaters of the Metolius.
Stump carved into a double-sided "chair" on the bank across from the Riverside campground.
Laurel and Serena enjoying a quiet rest moment after going up and down a knoll near the Metolius. In late afternoon the sun filters through tall Ponderosas along the banks, making for natural spotlighting. The Forest Service recently dragged a bunch of logs out of the forest and laid them in the Metolius for fish habitat. I've got mixed feelings about this. Despite best efforts, some of the logs look decidedly artificial in this designated Wild and Scenic river. Another view of logs. The trees were pulled out, rather than cut down, so the roots could anchor the logs and provide a richer fish habitat (or so I understand). Along the bank, an interesting mix of red leaves and white fuzziness. Every time I go for a walk along the Metolius, something new catches my eye. Like life itself, it's an everchanging river.
These are so lovely...thanks for sharing.
I recently visited the Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery and the Metolius Headwaters..shot some photos, too. They're on Facebook.
I'm not a religious woman, but this place comes about as close as I get to becoming one with my spirituality.

Beautiful photos. I was there on Saturday on our way home from the John Day country and it is always a relaxing and beautiful stop bringing back so many memories over so many years
