Not to convert you to it, but the Kindle 2 does have a number of a very economical features:

1. Wireless access to the net for free, basically forever (or until Kindle 3 comes out/jk).

2. You can take any free book off the web and email it to your kindle device... this also works for blogs, for email, for web text, etc.

3. It does store 1,200 books......

4. As a lover of the ocean, as I know you are..... it does allow one to read in the sun which our Iphone do not....

But I agree that the kindle won't replace the material book, just as t.v. really didn't replace radio....

I think the cost of the Kindle is due to its online (for free) access through Sprint.

Personally, I think the Kindle should mate with the Iphone and then mate with the very portable (smaller than my wallet) projector....

and then we will have a new device that will truly transform our already obsessive reading habits.

I am already in line, even though it hasn't even been announced.(jk)

Enjoying your blogs....

keep up the good work

Why did you order it in the first place? Perhaps I'll be converted some day, but I don't find any appeal in the Kindle yet.
