Brian, health care in America is not about the health of people; it's about the health of an industry.

To mix my metaphors, get the flea out of your ear.

The health insurance industry is incredibely swift and efficient - at holding up payment if your injury appears to be work related (even though you are retired). Their paperwork and bureaucracy boggle the mind of a former bureaucrat.

We won't have significant change until we figure out how not to harm the insurers, their profit being of more significance than your inability to find emergency care after business hours.

We gotta operate more like a business, and that means that you have to time your health care problems in accordance with their business plan. They just can't stand idle time which they see as a form of surplus capacity.

We're told we have the best health care in the world, which can only be if they parse the term to exclude most of the circumstances that cause us to need a doctor.

Your story is so typical and it won't get better unless Americans stand up and demand health care that meet needs, not corporation profits. It's a problem in all the arenas including prescription meds. Very frustrating
