I just finished watching the debut episode of The Wonder Pets on Nickelodeon Jr. (yes, this 57 year old has too much time on his hands). I have an urgent warning for pot smokers and, especially, any users of psychedelics (do they still exist?).
Do not, repeat, do not watch The Wonder Pets if you aren’t prepared to laugh your guts out. That almost happened to me just now, and I’m not even high on anything (except life, ha, ha).
Today I watched Turtle Tuck, Linny the Guinea Pig and Ming-Ming Duckling save a dolphin trapped in a fishing net and a chimpanzee stuck in an orbiting space capsule. The music and songs are addictive. Sample lyrics:
“Wonder Pets, Wonder Pets,
We’re on our way
To help a baby chimp
And save the day.
We’re not too big
And we’re not too strong
But when we work together
We’ve got the right stuff
Gooooooooooo Wonder Pets!
Yaaaaaaaaaaay!”
(Note: it seems like “strong” and “stuff” should rhyme; maybe I need a hearing aid.)
Plus, the animals come up with some pretty deep insights that can be taken on many levels. Even if you’re not high. For example:
“Whoa, we’re in space.”
“There sure is a lot of space in space!”
And:
“Wonder Pets to baby chimp: do you hear me?”
“He doesn’t hear you, Linny!”
“Baby chimp: take that banana out of your ear!”
Check it out. But only, repeat only, if you’re drug free. Otherwise you might never return from Laugh Land.
Is everyone sure that Linny is a girl? My seven month old also loves this show. We were just watching an episode (I think it was the dolphin one) and they were in Hawaii. Anyway, they were all wearing grass skirts, but only Ming-Ming had a coconut bra. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Linny did have one.
Any about updates on the merch? I wanted to do a Wonder Pets themed first birthday for my son!

My 5yo daughter with Autism loves this show and actually eats celery by the stalk!!! Go Wonder Pets!

My (almost) 2 yr. old LOVES the Wonder Pets. I had never heard of it until recently. He saw it with his daddy a couple of times and started singing "teamwork." It took a while before I figured out what he was talking about. I think it is cute, though. Anything that he loves that much after seeing it only a couple of times is great in my opinion. The song does stick in mine and my husband's heads, though.
Call me a hippie, but I wish they rescued animals from disasters caused by humans. Such as animals fom oil spills or litter. It could educate children more, you'd be surprise how much they can learn from a show. It would also open people's eyes and encourage communication between children and parents about world issues.

This is the most absolute perfect show for little kids ever made. I have a 7 month old who has been watching this show for 2 months and yes, her first words were "Ming-Ming." Actualy it's more like "Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming-Ming..." etc. The music is absolutely fantastic for adults and children and it teaches positive life lessons. What I don't understand, Susan, is why you you would want to screw up the innocence of little kids by exposing them to all of the ills of the world at such a young age. The fact that there is no agenda on this show is what makes it so good. While you're at it, why don't you have the Wonderpets rescuing animals from paochers in Africa, a massacre in Darfur or from someone who molested them. Kids will have plenty of time to learn how screwed up the world is. Don't you think it would just be better to expose them to positive life lessons for the time being?

I'm 23 years old and I am addicted to Wonderpets (why does that sound like an intro at a 12-step meeting?). And there's not a young child in sight. Just my 50-something mother and I. We sit and watch and sing (oh god this sounds so pathetic) and laugh our heads off (with a couple glasses of wine, haha). Wonderpets references make their way into my everyday conversation, things are very often "sewious" and I sing when my phone is ringing, haha. Wonderpets is one of my favorite shows and I'm not afraid to admit it, no matter how much abuse I get from my boyfriend and father. :-P

I don't know if anyone's already asked this, but does anyone have an episode list? I'm trying to record the shows in order for my 2 yr old before we move and I'm having a hard time finding one. We just love the show! She gets "stuck in the mud" at least 5 times a day for me to save her!
Posted by: Courtney | May 30, 2007 at 08:03 AM
We love the WOnderpets! My no nonsense husband is heard singing "this is sewious" to our three year old. Our three year old uses the lyrics throughout the day..."this is sewious, i need my nana" Funny boy! I on the other hand do not take part in this nonsense! NOT! I do so much more, Konner hasn't eaten his broccoli, this is sewious, we have to help him!" God help us. I love the innocense it has brought to us!

Viva the Wonderpets fans! We are all mad wonderpet fans in our house (2 grown adults plus 9 yrs, 6 yrs and 16 months old tots). We play all sorts of silly games pretending to be the pets, and singing all our conversation in their style over and over to the point of forgetting and answering the phone singing "hello, my name is T-urt". It's hilarious! The Wonderpets song has become some sort of family motto for us. I just can't believe that such dischordant singingspeak can catch on, but it has caught hold of us. Yay, Viva the Wonderpets!

I'm so excited to see that they've FINALLY come out with Wonder Pets plush (looking them up is how I found this website). My 2 1/2 year old son is a Wonder Pet Aholic. As a matter of fact, he's in his crib right now having a conversation with his imaginary friend Linny, as he does throughout the day. I accidentally sat on Linny on the couch this morning, and I accidentally forgot to put Linny in the car before closing the door. A few years ago I'd have thought the idea of holding an invisible guinea pig for my son while we're out and about was a nutty idea, now its just a part of our day. My 9 month old son loves it too!
Posted by: Angela | June 05, 2007 at 06:03 PM
(more from above) Oh, and how could I forget- every night before bed we cuddle on the couch and I have to tell a Wonder Pets story, but its only allowed to be called "The Wonder Pets- Save Ryan." My son will only let me tell the story about the Wonder Pets saving him. It follows the story line and includes all of the songs. I'm probably on episode 50 by now. Tonight the Wonder Pets saved Ryan by fishing the stuck bubble wand out of the bubble bottle....

Nickjr now has Wonder Pets stuffed animals. A little over priced but very cute. Lets hope they keep coming out with more stuff. :)
Last year, I contacted the company that actually makes Wonder Pets - not Nick Jr. They told me that Nick Jr was going to have products out by spring 2007 but Nick Jr is sure dragging their feet. My 3 year old loves the Wonder Pets and my whole family sings the main songs all the time. Kudo's to Nick Jr for picking up an excellent show!

This show ie extraordinary and brilliant. My addiction to this show is sewious. I find these characters so loveable. I use so much of this simplicity in the boardroom. Hail to LINNY, TUCK and MING-MING too. LONG LIVE THE WONDERPETS!

Amazon has their books!!

Thanks you other adults, for validating my good taste in television. I cannot believe that there FINALLY is something worthwhile for children (other than Little Einsteins)!
This brilliantly produced childrens operetta, goes beyond the typical educational phonics, colors, shapes learning and actually extolls the importance of team work.
Gotta go, cause "the phone, the phone is ringing"

im 16 years old & i absolutely love the wonder pets! ming-ming is my favorite! i annoy my mama going around the house singing 'the phone, the phone is ringing' 'theres an animal in trouble, theres an animal in trouble, theres an animal in trouble somewhere' and 'this is se-we-ous' i found the show when i went to my sisters to help w/ my few month old neice one morning. and now i watch when ever i see it on tv
Posted by: sam | August 11, 2007 at 12:32 PM
Now it all makes sense! i used to use drugs back in my college years...and this is the only show that my 3 year old watches that I truly enjoy. Life is all about teamwork and this show has a much better message then sponge bob...even if it is the same show over and over again with different animals (and a little tree - this mornings episode) being saved by these 3 classroom pets!

I really hate to say this.....My 22 yr old son went to college and left me with a 10 year old iguana in a very quiet house. I started to turn on the TV each day for some noise and noticed the iguana was very attentive to the TV during "Wonder Pets"-- well I sat down to watch it with her and ended up getting hooked. Each day she will sit in her TV position and wait for me to put in on and proceeds to watch the show with a very placated look. When I told my husband he thought I was nuts until he witnessed this. Needless to say we are both walking around the house singing the songs and we have no children here.

I bought the first one in April and it has not stop playing since....seriously. My 12 year son and I find ourselves hostages because Wonderpets control our TV. Save the kangaroo is his favorite. birthday decorations info...
the only place we have found decorations so far is at nick jr.com they are all printable. I am hoping I can find other as well.
I had never seen this until I was searching the internet for b-day decorations. I am disappointed that some of you would say such ugly things about a child's show.
For those of you who think the wonderpets are not a good show because they are not realistic.... since when have cartoon characters been realistic? I grew up watching superman, wonderwoman, mighty mouse, pac-man, thundercats, transformers,He-man and the masters of the universe. Now that I understand they are not real I have no regrets. It did not "scar me for life" I have needed no therapy.
Just FYI... creativity stirs the imagination.. which encourages children to use their own minds for thinking..
and for those of you who called the writers "morons" one question.. when was the last time you wrote a cartoon show for nick jr? seems like if they hire morons you should put in an application you seem to have the right characteristics.

i'm so glad to see all of the WonderPets fans. My husband and I watch episodes like it's a soap opera. My sister thinks i'm crazy but she's obviously never seen the show. my fav episode is the hermit crab.."the sun it makes me very hot, i shrivel like an apricot."
if someone finds the Wonderpets costume please post. it's for my son, not me. i tried nickjr.com but there weren't any. i could have sworn i saw a commercial with a kid wearing one.

To the lady wanting to know about Wonder Pet Costumes: My 10 month old daughter LOVES the Wonder Pets. She is fascinated with Ming-Ming Duckling. So for her 1st Halloween costume I bought a baby duck costume from Children's Place online. We already had the 20" plush Ming Ming doll, so I cut off the aviator hat and tacked it to the head of the duck costume. I then cut the cape and tacked it to the body of the duck costume. And viola! You have Ming-Ming Duckling!!

I was offended by the gross and uncouth f...word used by one respondant. It is sad..My own comment is I hope there willbe many more episodes and hope to see Ollie the Bunny again..that was one very neat show!!

yeah!!!! new wonderpets episodes. I am a total wonder pets freak. My 2yo loves the wonder pets, and I make sure that i have my fix daily by recording it daily. My daughter can even tell what episodes are going to be on within 3 secs. Thats sad, but it makes her happy.
The only thing, in the episode the wonder pets save the turtle - ming ming said - something to tuck like - "making me all wet and mushy" I did not think it was appropiate but considering they were in the water i guess it made sense or i am reading too much into it.

Im a stay- at- home Mom, and I basically leave the Noggin channel on for my son and never get to really watch anything for myself....so I find myself along with hundreds of other parents siging away to the catchy tunes!! My husbend whom works all day from 9am to 10pm also has caught on to the tunes over the weekends, and randomly starts signing the intro no matter what were doing!!!! Sometimes we don't even realize it....seems like parents these days are so absorbed in more taskful things that something so simple is actually uplifting and makes you feel good no matter how silly you look to others!!!! Oh yea... and have absoluty NO shame in exploiting our quirks to other people!!!

I think its adorable, my son loves this show. Some people read wayy to much into some of the things they do. Lighten up.
Also, WIC is not a bad thing. Nor is it for just those on welfare. I am a stay at home mom and we are living off one income, and it was my choice to stay at home for the first few precious years of my sons life. So in exchange, yes I get WIC items. I am not ashamed of it either.

I would like nothing better than to see the Wonder Pets along with Sophi, Danica and Teala on the Oprah Winfry Show. I truly believe there is enough interest in these children and the characters they portray to fill up a couple of shows.
The writers and photographers on this program are outstanding and their talent should be realized by a nation that needs to study the concept of teamwork.

I am addicted. We get them three times a day on different tv channels and we would not miss any of them. No matter that it's the same ones over and over.
We even bought the movies. Some of this stuff is just classic. Singing the blues with the bullfrog and his grandpoles, dancing and singing when saving the mousie, etc. just cracks me up.
We have a twenty month old grandaughter who can only say mama and dada, but when the pets come on, she just stops everything she is doing and just sits and watches. Good stuff.

I agree its addicting but theres nothing bad about it!
Oh yeah and youve got a point... if you are a "druggie" then you shouldnt watch it because if you are dumb enough to even consider smoking crack you are too dumb to understand a show for 3yr olds!!!!!!!

We love the Wonderpets! My son and I watch them, Diego and Thomas all the time! (He's 2) We just bought Wonderpets save the Dinosaur and it is great!! There were several episodes on it - triceratops, bee, beaver, chimp (I love "Baby chimp take the banana out of your ear"), squirrel, and dolphin (I might have forgotten 1 or 2 animals). It was well worth the $12 (Wal-Mart). I'm hoping they come out with a ring tone - "The phone is ringing..." At least when I'm answering boring work calls I could have a little chuckle.
GO WONDERPETS!

I am 34 and like the Wonder Pets. My daughter turns 3 next month and we are doing a WP party with ideas from Nick Jr. http://www.nickjr.com/party/nick-jr-parties/wonder-pets/rescue_party/index.jhtml
I'm going to make a fly boat cake and everything. It will be cute.
When she plays now she is always rescuing someone or hanging a toy from the edge of a table and saying, "Help us!" then she comes and saves the day. Too cute.
Goooooooooooooooooo Wonder Pets! YEA!
