This great Bizarro cartoon, "Karl Rove and Plato," was included in yesterday's post. But it deserves to be featured on its own--especially since today The American Spectator neo-cons are following so faithfully in Rove's footsteps with their bizarre anti-AARP ad.
(Click on the preceding link to see the ad animation, which I don't seem to have been able to include in the image below.)
CNN reported that The American Spectator has pulled their "AARP hates the troops and loves gay marriage" ad because they just wanted to see how liberals would react. Would liberals go crazy or debate social security issues rationally? Well, the crazy reaction this ad is getting befits its obvious craziness. What do the images have to do with social security reform? Nothing.
This is so typical of conservative smear campaigns. Tell a lie often enough and people will start believing it. I think they've bitten off more than they can chew with the AARP though. As some commenters on The Daily Kos link above are saying, many members of the AARP are part of the "great generation" who fought wars to really defend the United States. Calling the AARP anti-troop isn't going to help win these folks over to Bush's side on social security reform.
Here's an interesting proposal from The Left Coaster about how to make Karl Rove and the Republicans pay for the anti-AARP ad.
karl and company[dubya] and cronies are the best bullshiters in america, hell Id believe it if I was not so damn left. I revell in the fact that so many red state voters are now going to get to live there vote with no one else to blame. they voted, there not uninformed, just ask them.today is sunday 3.27.o5 and the republicans are in a devide in there own party over getting involved in a personal, private matter for political gain... It clearly bit them in the ass. I.E media polls as reported 3.27.05 they know it, rove knows it,delays obviously behind it,when do the progressives take off the fucking gloves.???????
