I got an email from A Mohit, who shared a link to a post he wrote about "Islam and Women." Very disturbing, this tale of an Afghan woman who is raped, then has to marry her attacker in order to be freed from jail.
Mohit tells it like it is.
Shame on her tribe, shame on their society!
I do not condemn her family, who are probably as helpless as Gulnaz herself is. I raise my hands in prayer: May God have his fury on the people who oppress women in the name of God.
Here's another story about the woman.
“I am obliged to marry him, even though I can’t look at him,” 19-year-old Gulnaz said about the man she claims raped her.
...A press release from the presidential palace stated that the president had decreed her release “taking into consideration the consent of both sides for a conditional wedlock.”
In other words, she was free to go – if she agreed to marry her rapist. (Even though her rapist is already married, in Islamic societies, like Afghanistan, polygamy is allowed, with the specific limitation that men can have up to four wives).
Not the victory many were hoping for, but a small victory for women in a society who have seen few.
Mr. Mohit prays to God that those who abuse women in God's name be punished, but if the abusers pray more earnestly for more women to abuse, what's a God gonna do? Prayers gotta be answered.

what the naive prayer doesnt seem to understand is that inherent in his patriarchal belief system is a deep disrespect and hatred of women, nature and ones own nature!

To critics a religion it should be done form there book not form the follower of that religion. Islam is the only religion which gives the dignity and respect to the women.
