Thanks to a comment from Dvorah-gee! on my "Hey, God, shut up! No more conversations" post, I've been able to enjoy a music video made by disciples of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (not the musician).
It made me smile. And I appreciated the message. Shut up! indeed is a fine response…to ourselves, when our minds chatter away unnecessarily about ridiculous bullshit.
Be happy. Love. Hard to argue with those sentiments.
I also liked another video from Dvorah-gee! that puts forth the utterly reasonable proposition that the meaning of life is meaninglessness.
I'd never heard of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (guess at a certain spiritual level you earn a double Indian honorific). His goals, according to the Wikipedia article, are to relieve stress on the individual level and to relieve disease and violence on a societal level.
A CNN piece described his visit to Iraq and a meeting with the country's prime minister. Apparently quite a few Iraqis resonated with his meditative/yoga philosophy – which I wouldn't have expected.
Browsing through the Sri Sri and The Art of Living web sites, I found too much of a guru-focus for my taste. But at least this guy seems sincere, doesn't take himself overly seriously, respects other faiths, and is trying to make the world a better place.
If only all religious leaders did the same.
There is more to the techniques taught by him and the activities carried out by the organization than just focus on the guru. It has changed my life completely. You can give it a try and find out for yourself :-)
Love and Regards.

When I remember anything that has happened to me, I am happy.
Is that what he means?
