It is informative on various varieties of Buddhism and explains the essence of the "Buddhist Way", but is not trying to explain the meaning life through Buddhism. Therefore, highly recommended.

Also, most english translations of "Dhammapada" (a collection of verses on Buddhist teachings), are quite readable. Dhammapada was written 500 years (?) after Buddha, but suppose to represent Buddha's teachings
Then they put it all together for the pleb on the plane so that it's readable and entertaining.
About ten years ago I read a rather well-known book called "Ishmael" by Daniel Quinn.
It's about a man who has intellectual discussions with a wise talking gorilla about mankind, the environment, and our place in the scheme of things (we aren't as important as we think we are). I don't remember it well, but I thought it was pretty good then.
Ashwin commented on 'Finding my Way in the Bodhi Tree Bookstore'tag:typepad.com,2003:6a00d83451c0aa69e200d8351539cc53ef2007-05-14T21:03:20Z2007-08-22T22:00:41ZAshwinSerious philosophy tends to attract my attention more, but, we flow with what we know.
Generally, I stay away from spirituality literature because many of them become repetitive. Do you have any novels or literature that stand out from the rest?

Modern (atheistic) philosophies tend to interest me the most - Heidegger, Wittgenstein, Nietzsche, Sartre, etc.
